A day in the park.

batmanrocks01:

” ‘s no problem Megan.” Marvin smiled, grabbing his skateboard. “I’d be happy to help. I can carry things for you.” Marvin was always happy to have friends to hang out with. He didn’t really talk to anyone much outside of school besides Wendy, so helping Megan made his day.

“Are you sure?” Megan asked reluctantly before she exhaled and nodded in agreement, a smile gracing her features.  ”Okay,” she said happily.  ”Thanks, Marvin.  I really owe you one.”  She grinned as they began walking.  ”You know what?  When school gets around, why don’t I bring something for you?  Like, um, cookies or brownies or something.  I have to return the favor somehow.”  Though Marvin hanged out with Conner more than her, Megan always felt like Marvin was a nice guy.  And for him to volunteer to help her out merely on a whim and without asking for anything in return—well, it really meant something to the Martian.  He was a true friend, and Megan was glad for that.

Anonymous sent: 5 things you like about your best friend, go!

“Eh—What—Wait—”  M’gann gulped.  She had to think about this.  ”Um, the way she’s just so cool, and her ability to speak her mind, oh—um her fighting skills, how she’s always so level-headed even under pressure…”  She smiled.  ”And of course, her skills in archery.”

“Well I try, but sharp pointy things don’t particularly like me.” Marvin laughed, oblivious of Megan’s shock and worry. It was just one of those things that kind of… happened.

Marvin stretched his arms over his head chuckling, “That’d be great if that could happen. Would never have to go to the store again. Do you need a hand?”

Megan managed a small, awkward laugh.  ”Well, just be more careful next time, okay?” she reminded him.  After all, the last thing she wanted was for Marvin to end up cutting his finger or something.  And it wasn’t a very pleasant thought to think about, anyway.

She smirked.  ”It’s really not so bad.”  Megan blinked.  ”Er, well, I don’t want to impose, Marvin…,” she muttered aimlessly.  Most times, Conner would accompany her, but given his training time with Superman, she didn’t want to be a bother to her boyfriend.

A Joy Proposed

b01-robin:

Rob returned her smile, looking up at her, scraping the last bits of dough out of the bowl to plop on the next baking sheet they were going to use. “You’re really awfully nice, Megan. It’s good, strange to see after being in Gotham and around its people for so long, you know?”

Gotham was truly a dark and dreary place, rampant with crime and paranoia. The people were all suspicious of one another and wary of their safety, yet they wouldn’t ever leave. The lower class couldn’t afford it, the middle class was practically nonexistent, and the people with big money had roots there they were unable to give up to live a better life somewhere else. In fact, most of the big money was probably cause for most of the crime.

It was refreshing to see other cities often, ones that weren’t as dark or plagued with a shadow of oppression. Happy Harbor was literally just that, happy and well, a harbor. It was a good place for someone so bright like M’gann. “I don’t know why people wouldn’t like you, but then again, I don’t know much about Mars or other Martians besides you and J’onn, so I’m not really at liberty to give an opinion, am I?” The boy laughed, picking up the sheet, turning, and sliding it into the oven.

“C’mon. Let’s get started on cleanup.”

“What do you mean?” M’gann asked.  She blinked and tilted her head, confused by the statement.  Gotham—that was where Batman and Robin were usually situated with, weren’t they?  But she didn’t quite see the difference or how it would even matter.

Of course, Miss knew that Earth-16 wasn’t perfect—ut then again, Mars wasn’t either; M’gann may have been optimistic, but she was also realistic.  It wasn’t like every planet was some sort of utopia.  You simply had to make the best with what you had.  And M’gann—well, she liked Earth.  Sure, it was different from Mars, but it was here that the Martian was loved and accepted, not merely as M’gann M’orzz but as her true self, too.

M’gann laughed.  ”Maybe not.”  She smiled.  ”But thanks, Robin.”  It was nice to hear, at the very least.  Robin was a good friend, and she was glad for it.

“Right!”  Lifting up a hand, she had levitating the used bowls and measuring cups into the sink while she moved the ingredients that they used back to the cabinets and wherever else she had taken them from.  She turned to Robin and smiled.  ”I think we’re good.”

Baking 101.

b04-superboy:

“I asked if I could leave early to see you.” He admitted easily, speaking the truth. Conner had asked Superman if he could leave a bit earlier, though Clark had caught on fairly quickly that he was eager to spend time with M’gann and let him go a lot earlier then he expected himself. But Conner wasn’t one to complain about that, he was glad the man understood so easily, probably because he had experience himself on the fact he didn’t see Lois as often as he wished because of his super hero duty. Luckily Conner had the luck that M’gann was in it herself so that he had more change on seeing her, albeit the change of losing her was also greater, though he’d rather not dwell on that part at all.

His eyes glanced at the open cooking book as she made a gesture towards it, nodding as he understood what she wanted him to do. “Yeah, I’m sure I can manage that.” After all, it would just be the measuring, there is nothing he can do wrong with that if he just followed her and the books instruction, or at least he hoped not. He was never one for cooking, seeing as M’gann always ended up doing it or making it for him. Maybe it will do him good to actually learn some basics for if she wasn’t around for a long period of time and he got hungry. Depending if Zatanna isn’t around at the cave either, as she usually helped M’gann with the cooking from time to time. Superboy’s eyes traveled from the book towards his girlfriend, “what do you want me to measure?”

M’gann beamed, unable to hide her blushing cheeks.  ”R-Really!?” she exclaimed with delight.  ”You did that… for me?”  She felt a little guilt-ridden—after all, she didn’t want to impose when Conner was finally getting to spend time with Superman.  This was something Conner wanted for a long time, to train and be supported by the one person who he aspired to be.  M’gann missed her boyfriend, of course, but she didn’t want to seem clingy or desperate like some girls from her 70s sitcom shows.  But it was nice to see that Conner thought of her.  M’gann M’orzz didn’t have to be a mind reader to see that much.

Leaning forward, she grinned and gave him a kiss on the cheek.  ”You’re really sweet, Conner.  Thanks.”  She wasn’t just thanking him for getting some time off for her; she knew it was a big step for Conner to help her out in the kitchen after her last blunder with him.  ”Hmm.  Well, why don’t you start by measuring the flour and the baking soda?  We need those mixed together in one of these bowls.  I’ll handle the eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract.”  At the very least, if Conner did the flour and baking soda and something happened, he would just get a little powdery instead getting egg yolk stuck in his hair.

A Joy Proposed

b01-robin:

“Oh,” he said softly. M’gann’s true Martian appearance wasn’t much of an issue anymore between the entire team. Ever since she revealed to everyone her White Martian form, no one had brought it up. That was just what she was biologically. He could understand that the girl in front of him, green and so, so sweet, was who she really was. It wasn’t too hard to comprehend, but Robin knew that sometimes society was different in that the people (or martians) that made it up weren’t so accepting or kind. She must have faced a lot of backlash over something she couldn’t control.

“Well your mom sounds really nice,” he exclaimed brightly, turning back to the cookie dough and helping to put the last of it on a semi-warm pan. “And, um, here on earth, I hope you only bake now because you enjoy it, and not because you don’t feel accepted, you know?” Rob hoped he wasn’t being too intrusive or something. He didn’t know Megan that well, after all, and though they were friends, they didn’t hang out much besides spending time together with the team at the base.

The boy popped another bit of dough in his mouth, talking around it. “‘Cause you are, accepted I mean. By Conner most especially, but I think you know that already..” He grinned up at her, genuine and just a bit carefree. Conner was probably always on the girl’s mind, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone. Their relationship was kind of hard to miss.

Talking about Mars was like a double-edged sword to M’gann.  She didn’t necessarily have a terrible life on her home planet by any means.  There were happier times, of course, with her family, sisters, and Uncle J’onzz—but of course, with all good times came the bad, and the Martian was familiar with that quite well and certainly more so than others.

It wasn’t like she wanted to be born a White Martian.  That was out of her control from the very beginning.  But even though she had once been ashamed of her appearance and image, she could never bring herself to hate it.  To hate it would show hate upon her heritage, and the last thing M’gann wanted was to loathe the family, parents, and life she was brought into.  No matter how close she came to doing so.  ”Oh, no!  I don’t feel any obligation at all!  I mean, yes, at first it was because I couldn’t fit in, but…”

She faced Robin and smiled.  ”Yeah, I know that,” she replied sweetly.  Conner was the first person who accepted who she was—who she really was.  For that, she would be eternally grateful to him, the person she loved so ardently.  ”And I know you and everyone else accepts me, too.  You don’t really have to say it, but…  It’s nice to hear it, all the same.”  M’gann had her doubts in the past, but she didn’t want to doubt her friends and the trust she placed in them anymore.  They were all very precious to her, after all.

A day in the park.

batmanrocks01:

Marvin laughed along with Megan. She did have a point there, he was not one to bake. “Yeah I’m not too good in the kitchen. I usually just slice myself with a knife.”

“Yes it is ! Its so nice out. Its not too cold where the wind makes my face gross and dry and its not too hot to where I’m sweating a whole bunch. So what are you doing today ? Just strolling the park ?”

Megan gasped with shock and surprise, making a face at the horrid comment.  ”Slice yourself with a knife!?  Y-You—You should really be more careful, Marvin…,” she replied hesitantly.  It didn’t occur to the Martian that her friend could have just been exaggerating; sarcasm or Earthling jokes were never quite her forte.  She merely assumed people that told the truth most of the time if they simply had no reason at all to lie.

She chuckled humorously.  ”Ah, I see.”  Typical Marvin.  He was usually the optimist.  ”Er, I was actually going to do some grocery shopping,” Megan explained.  ”I… sort of used up a lot of ingredients baking, and they won’t just appear out of thin air, you know?”

A day in the park.

batmanrocks01:

“Cool cool. Sounds like a good time. I’ve never really baked anything but it always tastes good when someone else does.” Marvin laughed.

“It’s such a nice day outside, don’t you think ?” Marvin thought out loud. He looked around at the sky. A beautiful blue that had little white clouds here and there. The grass was exceptionally green and it was all in all a picture perfect summer day.

M’gann laughed.  ”Well, of course, you’d think that, Marvin.  You’re not the one baking,” she teased.  But he had complimented her baking before, so she had to be grateful.

Blinking, M’gann looked up and around.  She hadn’t quite noticed it up until now, but Marvin had a point.  It was a good day.  Sunny with hardly a cloud in sight.  It was summer.  The Martian couldn’t have expected any less.  ”You’re right, Marvin,” she agreed, grinning.  ”I bet that’s why you went skateboarding today, right?”
